MUSOL (Municipalists for Solidarity and Institutional Strengthening) was founded in 1998 by a group of individuals with expertise and qualifications in local government administration.
We are an independent, non-profit organization, recognized as a Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO) by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). MUSOL was initially established as an association and became a foundation in 2009.
MUSOL is committed to working with local and regional public entities. This mission has evolved over time, and our actions have diversified to address the complexity of sustainable development challenges. Today, we are an organization that promotes more sustainable, democratic, and just development, supporting the capacity building of local and regional public entities and encouraging active citizen participation in governance processes across Europe, Africa, and Latin America. To achieve this, we develop social, educational, and international cooperation initiatives, connecting the knowledge and experience in local and regional public administration of our members.
MUSOL’s specialization is reflected in our strategic partnerships. We have a collaboration agreement with the General Council of the College of Town Clerks, Treasurers, and Controllers of Local Administration (COSITAL) and with numerous provincial colleges of Town Clerks, Treasurers, and Controllers of Local Administration. In Europe, we have a collaboration agreement with UDITE, the Union of European Local Government Managers.
The MUSOL Foundation has a solid governance structure and an executive team with a territorial presence in various regions of Spain and abroad. Both its board of trustees and its team consist of professionals with extensive experience in local government and international cooperation.
The MUSOL Foundation defines its mission, vision, and values as the strategic foundation of its actions, complemented by three-year plans that establish priorities in various areas and regions. Additionally, it has codes of conduct and policies in place to ensure ethical, transparent, and responsible management.
